After School Detention Expectations

Detention is a tool Douglas High School utilizes to change student behavior.  Therefore, students are expected to follow these guidelines during after school detention:

    1. Behavior.  Students are expected to work on homework or read a book during all detentions.   You are to remain seated in a chair and quiet.  Students are not allowed to sit on tables or desks.  Students are not allowed to play with other student’s (or teacher’s) personal belongings.  You are not allowed to visit.  You should be working for the entire detention period. Students must follow all school rules, including dress code.

    2. If you are uncooperative or defiant you may be asked to leave, immediately.   If you refuse an administrator or SRO will be notified immediately.  A referral will follow.

    2.      Attendance.  Only students assigned to detention are to be in the detention room.  Attendance will be taken.  If a student enters the detention room who is not assigned detention they will be given a referral.

If you miss an assigned detention you will be given a referral for missed after school detention.

    3.      After school detention is instructional time.  Therefore, all cell phones must remain off and put away.  If you use a cell phone during after school detention, you will receive a referral for cell phone use.

Friday School Procedures (1:30 – 3:30 p.m.)

Students who are failing 1 or more classes will be assigned Friday School to improve academic performance.  Students will be given a Friday School Slip by Wednesday of the week they are assigned.  Students must attend Friday School when assigned.  Instructors will notify the student’s parent/guardians.

If a student is involved in activities they must communicate and work with their teachers regarding the Friday School.  Failure to attend Friday School due to a school activity is unacceptable.  The student will receive a referral.

Students who are failing more than 1 class will have assigned times to report to each teacher.  It is the student’s responsibility to know when they have to report to each teacher for Friday School.  Teachers will have scheduled times for each student.  Please check with them.

Mandatory Friday School Students (Students on Academic Contracts) will be assigned a classroom to attend.
